Cable Television Was First Introduced Around This Year
In the early 1940′s John and Margaret Walson had a dream — well, not really a dream, but they did have a vision. They owned an electric appliance store that specialized in repairing and installing appliances. In 1948, John and Margaret invented community antenna television.
Initially, customers had trouble receiving signal for the three television stations in Philadelphia because of the mountains. John installed an antenna on a utility pole in mountains to help his customers receive signal. He also attached his store’s televisions to this antenna to show the three Philadelphia stations from his store’s display window.
Since 1948, cable television has found its way into millions of American homes. Before television, people got their news from radio broadcasts. News stations quickly formed to present a visual display of current news.
In 1953, color television was successfully broadcast. A few years after that, color television sets were widely distributed to consumers. However, the television’s remote control was not distributed until 1956.
Without the invention of television, we would still be getting our news from radio and print–well, we still get our news from radio and print, but you know what I mean. Now, televisions display 3D images. Who knows what will be next for television after this.
