The FCC Steps In With Regulations
June 17th, 2011 by adminThe FCC stands for the Federal Communication Commission and is an independent agency of the government. This agency was formed back in 1934 and its headquarters are currently in Washington DC. The FCC has many responsibilities and one of them is to regulate obscenity and profanity on television and on the internet. During the 60′s and 70′s, television shows were innocent and people could set down and enjoy them with their families without covering eyes and ears. During the late 80′s and early 90′s television became increasingly risque’, allowing profanity and even showing some nudity. The FCC has stepped into make sure that young children do not see inappropriate shows by forcing certain channels to show obscene material after 9 p.m.
The internet is a very useful tool, but it has also become the devil’s playground. There are many sites that are inappropriate and can easily be accessed by young people. Fortunately, the FCC has stepped into help regulate that also. Many people are complaining saying that the FCC is ruining their freedom on the internet. However, it is important to note that young children frequently use the internet and they do not need to be looking at racy material.
